As shifts are scheduled outside of class time, previous holders of this position have included PhD candidates and veterinary students who found significant opportunities to delve into emergency medicine while on duty and plenty of time to study if no calls came in. Additionally, the role fosters abundant one-on-one interactions with our veterinarians, offering invaluable mentorship and learning prospects.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain readiness for emergencies by ensuring the veterinary truck is fully stocked and prepared for rapid deployment.
Drive to and from emergency locations promptly, ready to provide vital assistance.
Assist in capturing, restraining, and facilitating emergency treatment for large animal patients.
Prioritize safety at all times, ensuring the well-being of handlers, veterinarians, and bystanders during emergency situations.

Requirements:
- Must be over 18 years of age.
- Availability to stay in or near practice-provided housing during on-call shifts, with the ability to respond within a 15-minute notice.
- Flexibility to work shifts outside regular business hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Proficiency in capturing and restraining large animals with skill, compassion, and confidence.
- Ability to safely and confidently operate a large veterinary truck, including navigating various terrains and maneuvering into tight spaces.
- Strong organizational skills for preparing and maintaining equipment and supplies in a mobile practice environment.
